Association of Pharmacy Professionals (APP) Hyderabad Local Branch and APP Trichy Local Branch jointly organized Indo-Caribbean Virtual International Symposium on “Pharmaceutical Research: Past, Present and Future” on 12th February 2022 in collaboration with APP CommClinPharm Division, which was hosted by Nand Kishore College of Pharmacy, Naini, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, in commemoration of ‘International Day of Women and Girls in Science‘.
During this scientific symposium, Prof. Terezinha de Jesus Andreoli Pinto, President, APP Brazilian International Branch and Ex-Director, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil acted as ‘Chief Guest’Sh. Bhan Singh, Chairman, Nand Kishore College of Pharmacy, Naini, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh as ‘Patron’Dr. Rajiv Dahiya, Founder President APP and Director, School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago as ‘Organizing Chairman’; Dr. Ritu Kataria, Joint Secretary, APP Haryana State Branch and Principal, G.V.M. College of Pharmacy, Sonipat, Haryana and Prof. K. Padmalatha, President, APP Andhra Pradesh State Branch and Principal, Vijaya Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Women, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh as ‘Guest of Honors‘ of inaugural and valedictory functions; Prof. Kiranmai Mandava, Head, APP Hyderabad Local Branch and Vice Principal, St. Pauls College of Pharmacy Turkayamjal, Ranga Reddy, Telangana as ‘Convener‘; Prof. S. Latha, Head, APP Trichy Local Branch from Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Anna University, BIT Campus, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu and Dr. Neelesh Kumar Dwivedi, Principal, Nand Kishore College of Pharmacy, Naini, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh as ‘Co-Conveners‘; Prof. M. Ramesh, National Head, APP CommClinPharm Division from Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy JSSAHER Deemed to be University, Mysore, Karnataka and Dr. Sunita Dahiya, General Secretary APP from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, University of Puerto Rico, San Juan, Puerto Rico, United States as ‘Scientific Committee Chairman’.
The symposium started with welcome address by Dr. Sunita Dahiya, General Secretary APP followed by inaugural remarks by Dr. Ritu Kataria, Joint Secretary, APP Haryana State Branch. Scientific session of the event was initiated with inaugural note of Dr. Arlene Villarroel Stuart, Vice President, The Pharmaceutical Society of Trinidad & Tobago from School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago on ‘Role of Pharmacists in Clinical Settings in Trinidad & Tobago, and Worldwide‘. During the symposium, oration competition was held for ‘Women Scientist Award 2022‘ and ‘Women Researcher Awards 2022‘ in undergraduate and postgraduate categories.
A total of fifteen (15) oral presentations were made by staff members (doctorates) of different pharmacy institutions nationally and internationally for ‘Women Scientist Award‘ in Scientific Session I. Dr. Monika Kaurav, Assistant Professor, KIET School of Pharmacy, KIET Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh secured the ‘first place‘ for her oration on “Bionanocapsules (BNCs) Mediated Transcutaneous Immunization” and won ‘Women Scientist Award 2022‘ which carried a cash prize of Rs 5000, memento, medal and certificate and given in memory of ‘Late Smt. Khazani Devi‘. Dr. Madhu Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi and Dr. Paramita Basu, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, Touro College of Pharmacy, New York, USA were conferred with ‘Appreciation Awards‘ for getting ‘second place‘ in the Women Scientist Award Competition for their orations on ‘Tobramycin Nanoparticles for Wound Healing Therapy‘ and ‘Group B Streptococcus (GBS): A Leading Cause of Neonatal Infection‘ respectively. In the oration competition, third place was secured by Dr. Pooja Chawla, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis, ISF College of Pharmacy, Moga, Punjab for her oration on “Discovery of 4-Thiazolidinones as Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant Agents: Synthesis, Characterization and Pharmacological Studies“. This session was chaired by Dr. Gaurav Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmacy, Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur, Rajasthan; Dr. Sushil K. Kashaw, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh; Prof. Govindasamy Jeyabalan, Principal, Alwar Pharmacy College, Alwar, Rajasthan; Prof. Kiranmai Mandava, Vice Principal, St. Pauls College of Pharmacy Turkayamjal, Ranga Reddy, Telangana and Prof. S. Latha, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Anna University, BIT Campus, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
A total of thirteen (13) oral presentations were made by staff members and Ph.D research scholars of different pharmacy institutions for ‘Women Researcher Award 2022‘ on postgraduate category in Scientific Session II. Mrs. Jagruthi Peddapaka, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, St. Pauls College of Pharmacy, Turkyamjal, Hyderabad, Telangana secured the ‘first place‘ for her oration on “Design, Synthesis, Molecular Modeling and Biological Evaluation of 8- Hydroxyquinoline-4-thiazolidinone Derivatives” and won PG ‘Women Researcher Award 2022‘ which carried a cash prize of Rs 2500, memento, medal and certificate and given in memory of ‘Late Smt. Shyam Sundri‘. Ms. Harini R, Ph.D Scholar, Department of Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, Mother Theresa Post graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Government of Puducherry Institution, Puducherry, UT and Ms. Anjali Pradhan, M.Pharm Scholar, Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, Karnataka won ‘Appreciation Awards‘ for getting ‘second place‘ in the Women Researcher Award Competition in postgraduate category for their orations on ‘Virtual Screening of Phytoconstituents from Musa acuminate Targeting Main Protease of SARS-CoV-2 for Anti-Viral Activity‘ and ‘Drug Utilization Evaluation in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a Tertiary Care Hospital‘. This session was chaired by Dr. Saurabh Dahiya, Associate Professor, Department of Quality Assurance, DIPSAR, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi; Prof. Piyush Mittal, Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Pharmacy, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh and Prof. Kuntal Das, Department of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, Karnataka.
A total of eight (8) oral presentations were made by B.Pharm and Pharm.D Students/Interns of different pharmacy institutions for ‘Women Researcher Award 2022‘ on undergraduate category in Scientific Session III. Ms. Meghna Gosi, Pharm.D Intern, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, Karnataka secured the ‘first place‘ for her oration on “Impact of Educational Tools to Counsel Diabetic Patients for a Better Foot Care Practices” and won UG ‘Women Researcher Award 2022‘ which carried a cash prize of Rs 1500, memento, medal and certificate and given in memory of ‘Late Sh. Bhola Nath Nikhra‘. Ms. Meghana Upadhya and Ms. Nivya Jimmy, Pharm.D Students, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, Karnataka won ‘Appreciation Awards‘ for getting ‘second place‘ in the Women Researcher Award Competition in undergraduate category for their orations on ‘Drug Utilization Evaluation of Neurological Medications in a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital‘ and ‘Optimization of Drug Therapy in Patients with Neurological Disorders: A Prospective Cohort Study‘. This particular session was chaired by Dr. Jeny Samuel, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, St. Josephs College of Pharmacy, Cherthala, Alappuzha, Kerala; Prof. K. Karthickeyan, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vels Deemed to be University (VISTAS), Pallavaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Prof. Palanisamy Selvamani, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Anna University, BITS Campus, Trichy, Tamil Nadu.
During the valedictory session of the symposium, Prof. K. Padmalatha, Principal, Vijaya Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Women, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh was conferred with ‘APP Principal of the Year Award 2022‘ and Prof. Kiranmai Mandava, Vice Principal, St. Pauls College of Pharmacy Turkayamjal, Ranga Reddy, Telangana was honored with ‘APP Young Performer Award 2022‘ for their outstanding professional service. Also, Dr. Paramita Basu, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, Touro College of Pharmacy, New York, USA was conferred with ‘APP Innovative Researcher Award 2022‘ for her research contribution and Dr. Arlene Villarroel Stuart, Vice President, The Pharmaceutical Society of Trinidad & Tobago from School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago was honored with ‘APP Young Pharmacist Award 2022‘ for her public service. Moreover, eight students from different pharmacy institutions viz. Ms. Saba Tahseem, D.Pharm Student, Nand Kishore College of Pharmacy, Naini, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh; Ms. Tanushree Jain, B.Pharm Student, School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi; Ms. Reshma Bobby, Pharm.D Student, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSSAHER Deemed to be University, Mysore, Karnataka; Ms. Ritika P. Patel, M.Pharm Scholar,  Department of Quality Assurance, Nootan Pharmacy College, Sankalkhand Patel University, Visnagar, Mehsana, Gujarat; Ms. Robina Rahmath Aara.K., M.Pharm Student,  Department of Pharmacognosy, Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Puducherry, Union Territory; Ms. Divya Lalwani, M.Pharm Student, Department of Pharmaceutics, Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Pharmacy, Jaipur, Rajasthan; Ms. Charmi Chhatrala, M.Pharm Student, Department of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSSAHER Deemed to be University, Mysore, Karnataka and Ms. Charu Misra, Ph.D Scholar, Department of Pharmacy, Central University of Rajasthan, Ajmer, Rajasthan were felicitated with ‘Best Student Awards‘ for their outstanding academic performance. The symposium ended with valedictory remarks by Prof. K. Padmalatha, President, APP Andhra Pradesh State Branch and closing comments by Prof. Terezinha de Jesus Andreoli Pinto, President, APP Brazilian International Branch.
