 APP GUJARAT STATE BRANCH 1NATIONAL SEMINAR
(MDDCRS-2014)

APP Gujarat State Branch and Shankersinh Vaghela Bapu Institute of Pharmacy, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad (GJ) jointly organized a National Seminar on “Modern Drug Discovery: A Challenge to Research Society” on 7th October, 2014 at the college premise. The main motive of the event was to elaborate the modern aspects of drug discovery and different challenges faced in this area across the globe. Event was initiated with ‘Deep Prajvalan’, ‘National Anthem’ and welcome of all the invited guests by presenting ‘Charakha Made Sutre’.
Seminar was inaugurated by Sh. Mahendrasinh Vaghela, MLA and Managing Trustee; Sh. Bharatsinh Vaghela, Managing Trustee; Dr. Rajiv Dahiya, President APP and Principal, Globus College of Pharmacy, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh as Organizing Chairman and Chief Guest; Prof. B. N. Suhagia, Dean, Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad as Special Guest from Academia; Mr. Sanjeev Sarkar, President – International Business, MedLife Formulations Private Limited, Pawane, Navi Mumbai as Special Guest from Industry; Dr. Paresh Purohit, Scientist (retd.), Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM), Jammu as Guest of Honor; Prof. M. M. Patel, Principal, Shankersinh Vaghela Bapu Institute of Pharmacy, Gandhinagar and Ex-Vice Chancellor, HNG University, Patan as Convener and Dr. Jayvadan K. Patel, President, APP Gujarat State Branch and Principal, Nootan Pharmacy College, Visnagar as Organizing Secretary.
The scientific session was started with the inaugural lecture by Dr. Rajiv Dahiya on “Natural Bioactive Cyclopolypeptides: Synthetic and Pharmacological Aspects” which was followed by talk of Mr. Sanjeev Sarkar who addressed the professional gathering on the topic “Indian Pharmaceutical Companies Potential in Africa and Pharma Marketing in Africa”. Scientific session was terminated with lecture of Dr. Kashyap Nagariya, Associate Research Scientist, Zydus Cadila Healthcare Limited, Ahmedabad, who addressed the audience on “Nanopharmaceuticals in Healthcare”.
The seminar was witnessed by huge crowd of faculties and students of hosting institute and surrounding pharmacy colleges of the Gujarat State. During the valedictory function, Dr. Ujashkumar A. Shah, Associate Professor, Nootan Pharmacy College, Visnagar, Gujarat was honored with “Outstanding Oral Presentation Award” in ‘Pharmaceutical Analysis’ section for his oration on the topic “Simultaneous Estimation of Azelastine HCl and Fluticasone Propionate in Pharmaceutical Dosage Form by Spectrophotometric and Chromatographic Methods”. During the programme, all the invited speakers were honored with mementoes by the hosting institute. At the end, Prof. B. N. Suhagia, Founder, APP Gujarat State Branch and Dr. Paresh Purohit, Scientist (retd.), IIIM, Jammu were honored with ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ by Association of Pharmacy Professionals (APP). Programme was ended with vote of thanks and presenting ‘Maa Sarasvati Pratima’ to Prof. M. M. Patel, Principal of the hosting institute by Dr. Rajiv Dahiya, President APP and Dr. Jayvadan K. Patel, President, APP Gujarat State Branch.


            

AINDO-WEST INDIES CONFERENCE
(MTPER-2017)

Association of Pharmacy Professionals (APP) Gujarat State Branch and APP West Indies International Branch jointly organized 5th Indo-West Indies Conference on “Modern Trends in Pharmaceutical Education and Research” on 10th December 2017 at Indubhai Patel College of Pharmacy and Research Centre (IPCPRC), Dharmaj, Petlad, Anand, Gujarat.

Scientific session of the conference was enriched with keynote lecture of Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sahu, Lecturer (Curriculum Development), Centre for Medical Sciences Education (CMSE), Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago who addressed the gathering on the topic ‘Students’ Perceptions of Small Group Teaching Effectiveness in Hybrid Curriculum’. Dr. Sahu told that problem based learning is an effective small group teaching method for medical and pharmacy students. Moreover, faculty development and students’ training programmes are required before implementing problem based learning (PBL). Another lecture was delivered by Dr. Alka Agarwal, Principal, U. S. Ostwal Institute of Pharmacy, Mangalwad, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan and National Head, APP Drug Design & MedChem Division on the topic ‘Novel Methods in Drug Design and Development: Challenges and Success’. Dr. Agarwal was honored with ‘APP Fellow Membership 2017’ for her overall contribution in the pharmacy profession. Scientific session was terminated with oration by Dr. Gunjan Jadon, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Shrinathji Institute of Pharmacy, Nathdwara, Rajasthan and National Coordinator, APP Drug Design & MedChem Division for which she was honored with ‘APP Outstanding Oration Award 2017‘ (Mr. Manas Tripathi Memorial Award) during the conference.
During valedictory function, Prof. Bhanubhai N. Suhagia, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, DD University, Nadiad, Gujarat was conferred with ‘APP Best Researcher Award 2017’ and Dr. C. N. Patel, Principal, Shri Sarvajanik Pharmacy College, Mehsana, Gujarat was conferred with ‘APP Best Faculty Award 2017’. Also appreciation awards were distributed to chairman and principal of hosting college.
Various posters were presented during this international-level conference and best poster prizes were given to Mr. Umang Shah from Ramanbhai Patel College of Pharmacy, Charotar University of Science and Technology, Petlad, Anand on topic ‘Identification of Potential Chalcone Derivatives: Non-Steroidal Aromatase Inhibitors for Breast Cancer by Molecular Docking and ADMET Prediction’; Ms. Ruby Christian from Anand Pharmacy College, Anand on topic ‘Enhancement of Oral Bioavailability of Withania Somnifera Extract by Novel Self Micro emulsifying Drug Delivery System’ and Ms. Inaxi Parmar from Department of Pharmacy, Sumandeep University, Baroda on topic ‘In silico Design of Human Cyclin Dependent Kinase-2 (CDK-2) Inhibitors using Pharmacophore Mapping and Molecular Docking Approaches’.

Scientific session of the conference was enriched with keynote lecture of Dr. Kamal Dua from Discipline of Pharmacy, University of Technology Sydney, New South Wales, Australia who addressed the gathering on the topic ‘Advancements and Applications of Nanotechnology in Pharmaceutical Sciences’. Dr. Dua told that the art of controlling the release rate of drugs aids in enhancing its therapeutic performance and providing better patient compliance. One such advanced approach is “Nano” drug delivery systems which includes nanosuspensions, nanoemulsions and nanomicelles. He emphasized on the fact that presently, potential of various modified “nano” systems such as proniosomes is being explored so as to develop improved and efficient drug delivery systems. On behalf of the Association, Dr. Dua was felicitated with ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ by Dr. M. Chinna Eswaraiah, the principal of the hosting college.
Another lecture was delivered by Dr. Atindra D. Shukla, Director, Shah-Schuman Center for Surface Science and Nanotechnology, Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad, Gujarat on the topic ‘Stimuli-Responsive Targeted Drug Delivery: From Therapy to Theranostics’. Dr. Shukla told that targeted delivery of theranostics (therapeutics and diagnosis) to organs/tissues or cellular level could potentially exhibit a high therapeutic ratio, low-toxicity and early accurate diagnosis in cancer treatment. During the conference, Dr. Shukla was honored with ‘APP Young Scientist Award 2017’ for his outstanding research accomplishments.
During valedictory function, Ms. Gayathri Tirumalashetti, Pharm.D (Second Year) student, Anurag Pharmacy College, Kodad, Suryapet, Telangana was conferred with ‘APP Best Student Award 2017’ for her outstanding academic performance. Also appreciation awards were distributed to chairman and principal of the hosting college. During the conference, 69 posters were presented in four sections. In each section, first, second and third prizes including certificate and memento were provided. In pharmaceutics, industrial pharmacy and nanoscience section, Ms. G. Sowjanya from Nalanda College of Pharmacy, Nalgonda won first prize on poster entitled ‘Needle Free Injections: An Overview‘. In pharmaceutical analysis and chemistry section, Mr. Surya Teja from Anurag Pharmacy College, Kodad won first prize on poster entitled ‘Electrochemical Biosensor in Pharmaceutical Analysis‘. In pharmacology and pharmacy practice section, Ms. D. Shirisha from Anurag Pharmacy College, Kodad won first prize on poster entitled ‘Broken Heart Syndrome or Stress Induced Cardiomyopathy‘. In microbiology and biotechnology section, Ms. T. Sumanjali from Nalanda College of Pharmacy, Nalgonda won first prize on poster entitled ‘Superbugs: An Overview‘.
