Association of Pharmacy Professionals (APP) Karnataka State Branch organized 2nd Indo-Brazilian International Conference on “Current Updates and Worldwide Trends in Pharmaceutical Sciences” at School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vels deemed to be University (VISTAS), Pallavaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu on August 11, 2023, in collaboration with APP Brazilian International Branch and APP AnalChem Division, in the commemoration of “International Youth Day 2023”.

The conference started with lightening of lamp and song ‘Tamizh Thai Vazhthu’. The ‘welcome address’ was given by Prof. P. Shanmugasundaram, President APP Tamil Nadu State Branch followed by ‘inaugural address’ by Prof. Suresh V. Chennupati, National Head, APP AnalChem Division. The ‘presidential address’ was delivered by Dr. Sriman Narayanan, Vice-Chancellor, VISTAS, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. During inauguration, APP awards were distributed and book chapters authored by faculty members were released. The scientific session-I of the conference was initiated with lecture of Prof. Gopal Venkatachalam, Principal & Academic Registrar, College of Pharmacy, Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Puducherry, Union Territory on topic ‘Translational Approach in Indian System of Medicine Research – A Case Study of Siddha Formulations’. The scientific session-II was enriched with lecture of Prof. Terezinha de Jesus Andreoli Pinto, Former Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil on topic ‘Overview and Critical Steps on Radiation Sterilization’ virtually. Scientific session ended with delivery of third and final lecture by Dr. Gananadhamu Samanthula, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Registrar (I/c), National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, Balanagar, Hyderabad, Telangana on the topic ‘Impurity Profiling of Pharmaceutical Products’. Scientific lecture sessions were chaired by the Co-Conveners – Prof. K. Karthickeyan, Prof. Ronald Darwin C and Prof. Suresh V. Chennupati, National Head, APP AnalChem Division.
After the lectures, scientific poster competitions were conducted during the conference and the best poster winners were awarded with medals and certificates. During the valedictory function, Dr. Manjuladevi Kasirajan, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS and Dr. Paramasivam Maheshwari, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS were conferred with ‘Best Achiever Awards’ for their respective teaching & research activities; Mr. Joel Mart Elias and Dr. Jacintha Sharon Daniel.J, Assistant Professors, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with Best Performer Awards’ in recognition of their noteworthy professional activities; Prof. K. Karthickeyan, Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with ‘Best Researcher Award’ in recognition of his outstanding research performance; Prof. Ronald Darwin C, Head, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with ‘Best Scientist Award’ in recognition of his outstanding scientific performance; Dr. V. Jayashree, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with ‘Best Teacher Award’ in recognition of her outstanding teaching performance; Dr. J. Priyanga, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS and Mr. Velmurugan Thiyagarajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with ‘Best Talent Awards’ in recognition of their overall outstanding performance; Mrs. Vaheeda Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS; Mrs. Pallavi Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS and Mrs. Sridevi.G, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with ‘Best Research Scholar Awards’ in recognition of their noteworthy research outputs; Ms. Theetchanya.S, B.Pharm Student, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS and Ms. Daisy Priya Pugazhenthi, Pharm.D Student, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS with ‘Best Student Awards’ in recognition of their noteworthy academic performance. In addition, Mr. Nilesh Naskar, B.Pharm Student, School of Pharmacy, The Neotia University, Sarisa, 24 Parganas (South), West Bengal was also conferred with ‘Best Student Award’ in recognition of his outstanding academic potential.
At last, the valedictory address was given by Dr. M. Bhaskaran, Pro Vice-Chancellor, VISTAS and Prof. Ronald Darwin C, Head, Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS presented the summary of the event. The convener, chief patron and patrons were felicitated with ‘Appreciation Awards’ for their untiring efforts for the accomplishment of Indo-Brazilian International Conference. The resource persons were provided with certificate of appreciations for their time and efforts. The conference ended with closing remarks and vote of thanks by Prof. K. Karthickeyan, Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS, Pallavaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and the ‘National Anthem’.

Scientific sessions of the conference were enriched with lectures of Prof. Terezinha de Jesus Andreoli Pinto, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil on virtual mode, Prof. P Shanmugasundaram, Director, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vels deemed to be University (VISTAS), Pallavaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Dr. Ramaiah Maddi, HOD, Department of Pharmacognosy, Hindu College of Pharmacy, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh who addressed the professional gathering on topics like ‘Overview and critical steps on radiation sterilization’, ‘Formulation of herbal mucoadhesive buccal films and it’s challenges’ and ‘Current status of medical device regulations in India & carrier opportunities for pharma students’. All the speakers of conference and the ‘Guest of Honor’ – President, APP Ethiopian International Branch were felicitated with ‘Certificate of Appreciations‘ at the end.

Further, Mr. Shaik Abdul Saleem, Assistant Professor, NIPS, Narasaraopet, Guntur was felicitated with ‘Best Talent Award’; Ms. Gurrapu Sindu Sravanthi, Assistant Professor, NIPS, Narasaraopet, Guntur felicitated with ‘Best Performer Award’; Mr. Kothandam Hari Prasath, Associate Professor, NIPS, Narasaraopet, Guntur honored with ‘Best Achiever Award’; Ms. K. Sri Lakshmi Priyanka, Mr. A. V. Rama Koteswara Rao (Pharm.D Students), Mr. Mohammad  Khader Hussian, Ms. Y. Ankusha (B.Pharm Students), NIPS, Narasaraopet, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh were honored with ‘Best Student Awards’.
